The historic Newtown Theatre will launch a monthly movie club in March. Modeled after a book club, this series will include the screening of a different movie each month followed by audience discussion.
Each film will be introduced by Joe Amodei, president/CEO of Virgil Films & Entertainment. After the movie, Amodei and various special guests will discuss the film with participation from the audience.
The first film in the series will be 1988’s “Cinema Paradiso” on Wednesday, March 5 at 7:30 PM.
Our special guest on March 5 will be Temple University film professor Irv Slifkin. Slifkin hosts the popular Zoom “Movie Club” videocast and has contributed articles to The Philadelphia Inquirer, Los Angeles Times, and Entertainment Weekly among others. He is also the author of “Filmadelphia: A Celebration of a City’s Movies” and “Groovy Movies: Far-Out Films of the Psychedelic Era,” as well as the writer/co-producer of the documentary “Time Warp: The Greatest Cult Films of All-Time.”
Tickets are available online or at the theatre's box office 30 minutes before the screening. Cost is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, and FREE for theatre members (members may simply walk in, no digital ticket needed).
All seating is general admission.
