Maybe This Year

Maybe This Year

“Maybe This Year” is the story of the Philadelphia Eagles’ improbable 2017 Super Bowl-winning season – as seen from the perspective of some of the team’s most die-hard fans. Follow Shirley (who will attend this screening), Barry, and Jesse as they navigate the challenges of life with their one constant — their love of the Philadelphia Eagles and the sport of football.

This film offers an intimate and nuanced view of the NFL’s most notorious fan base and casts a humanizing light on just what it means to be a “fan” of anything. This film isn’t about the Super Bowl, it’s about the religion of fandom.

Following the screening, Shirley A. Dash from the documentary will be available to take questions. Shirley is a loving mother and grandmother who is also a passionate Eagles fan. People may know her as EagleShirley, or one of the many famous callers from Philadelphia’s Sports Radio 94.1, or as the originator and instructor of her “Football 101, Do’s and Don’ts for the Ladies” classes. Although Shirley is passionate about her sports and a champion of equality and inclusion, she is also an Information Technology professional, and Adjunct Professor teaching IT and security courses part time.

Tickets are available online or at the theatre's box office 30 minutes before the screening. Cost is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, and $6 for theatre members.

All seating is general admission.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Do I Get Tickets?

Tickets are available online only starting Friday, November 1. These screenings sell out in advance, and tickets will not be available at the door.

We strongly urge you not to purchase tickets from someone offering them on Facebook. Scammers have attempted this in previous years.

What's included with each ticket?

In addition to the screening of The Polar Express, enjoy free hot chocolate (for everyone) and a free Santa sleigh bell (one per child).

Do I need a ticket for my infant/toddler?

Yes. All guests, including babes in arms, must have a ticket.

Will the concession stand be open?

Yes, you're welcome to purchase popcorn, candy, and drinks at the concession stand. We will also offer free hot chocolate to all attendees.

Can I reserve seats?

No, all tickets are general admission. We recommend arriving early if you're attending with a large group. Doors open one hour before each screening.

What are my parking options?

Free street parking is available along State Street, in the municipal lot between Washington and Centre Avenues, or the municipal lot next to Newtown Borough Hall (23 North State Street).

Can I exchange my tickets for a different date?

All ticket sales are final. Refunds or exchanges will not be offered for any reason, including illness or selecting the wrong screening. There are no exceptions to this policy.

If you can't attend, you're welcome to give your tickets to someone else. The name on the ticket does not have to match the person using it.

I didn't receive an email with my tickets.

First, check your junk or spam folder in your email inbox. If you don't see your tickets there 12 hours after purchasing, try to retrieve them here. If you have tried both of these things and you still don't see your tickets, please email manager@thenewtowntheatre.com with your full name and the date your purchased your tickets.

Should I bring my tickets to the event?

Yes! Electronic or hard copy is fine. We recommend printing them out (or saving them to your phone) as soon as you buy them. If you can't find your ticket, you can retrieve them here.

I have a question that wasn't answered here.

Please email manager@thenewtowntheatre.com. We are often unable to respond to last-minute emails on the day of each screening, so get in touch as early as possible!

"Purple Rain" Fundraiser with A Love for Life

"Purple Rain" Fundraiser with A Love for Life

A Love for Life and the historic Newtown Theatre are teaming up to show 1984’s classic “Purple Rain” as a fundraiser for pancreatic cancer research on Thursday, November 21 at 7:30 PM.

“Purple Rain” is rated R - must be at least 18 to attend.

For a donation of $20, this special evening will include a screening of the film, one free purple alcoholic drink (non-alcoholic option for those 18-20 years old), and other special surprises. One hundred percent of money raised will support pancreatic cancer research at Penn Medicine.

Purple is the color for pancreatic cancer awareness, and November 21 is World Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day.

Founded in 2012, A Love for Life is a non-profit organization that has raised more than $1 million for pancreatic cancer research at the Abramson Cancer Center at the University of Pennsylvania. The average survival rate for stage IV pancreatic cancer is a little over six months, and A Love for Life is determined to change that.

Released 40 years ago this year, “Purple Rain” tells the story of The Kid (Prince), a Minneapolis musician on the rise with his band, The Revolution. While trying to avoid making the same mistakes as his truculent father, The Kid navigates the club scene and a rocky relationship with a captivating singer, Apollonia.

DETAILS

  • Doors open at 7 PM and the film starts at 7:30 PM.

  • For this special fundraiser screening, tickets are purchased by making a donation to A Love for Life. They can be purchased only through the link above or at the door on the night of the event.
